A baseball career that began in Manitoba and stretched for five decades that will be honoured by the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in August.
Dan Asham now lives in Saskatoon and coaches the accomplished Saskatoon Stallions baseball team.
Since taking over the head coaching duties in 2001, Asham has led the Stallions to four junior AAA championships, two Saskatoon Senior Baseball League Championships and bronze and gold medals at Junior Western Canadian Championships.
"Dan is a special coach whose love for baseball is genuine," said Ryan Wickett, who was coached by Asham for two seasons with the Stallions. "He stresses that the boys have fun first and the rest will fall into place. During my time playing for Dan I learned a lot about baseball and was always impressed with his dedication and commitment to the game. He was a great coach and even better man."
Along with his work with the Stallions, Asham has also coached the Saskatoon Outlaws senior team to three AA provincial titles as an assistant coach.
In 2011, Asham received the Builder of the Year Award from the Saskatchewan Baseball Association.
Asham coached baseball at all levels from 1995 to 2011 and was the bench boss with provincial winning teams in mosquito AAA, peewee and bantam AAA divisions. He also coached the 1998 Bantam Zone 6 Team and won the Elite Tournament.
Asham played 13 seasons with the Saskatoon Outlaws beginning the year after he moved to Saskatoon in 1979.
As well as playing and coaching, Asham has been involved in administration for more than 30 years in Saskatchewan and 19 more in Manitoba.
Asham will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame Aug. 18, eight days after he turns 56. Asham will be inducted as a player and builder whose contributions were multiple in nature to the sport of baseball in Saskatchewan.
