The Stanley Cup is officially coming to Humboldt.
The Stanley Cup is officially coming to Humboldt.

After announcing plans for a day with the Stanley Cup earlier this summer, the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players Association have made it official: Chandler Stephenson and the Stanley Cup will make a special Humboldt visit on Aug. 24.

Humboldt Hockey Day will celebrate “the strength and resilience of the Humboldt Broncos community – a community that has worked so hard to support each other following the April 6 tragedy,” said a press release sent out by the Broncos.

Stephenson will be available for a meet and greet with both himself, and the cup, during the day on Aug. 24 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Elgar Petersen Arena. In addition, there will be a Hockey Hall of Fame display, interactive games, and a Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame exhibit.

There will also be two street hockey rinks set up in the curling rink, where local kids have the chance to play floor hockey with NHL alumni, as well as current players.

Kids are asked to bring their own sticks.

Humboldt Strong merchandise will also be on sale during the day, with all proceeds going to the Humboldt Strong Community Foundation.

With many people expected to visit during the day, the Uniplex concession stand will also be open, as well, some of the local businesses are expected to be serving food and drink outside of the Uniplex.

The events are open to the public, beginning at 12:00 p.m. with the meet and greet and street hockey games, and all events are set to be on the Uniplex grounds.
