The Battlefords Stars picked up a strong “W” on the road against the Notre Dame Hounds in midget AAA hockey action Oct. 19.
The Stars beat the Hounds 5-2 at Duncan McNeill Arena, for their third win of the season against five defeats.
Notre Dame got off to a quick start four minutes in on Andrew Stuckless’s goal, but the Stars took control after that with two straight goals by Nick Steciuk, Colby Ralston assisting on both, as well as Jake Southgate with three seconds left in the first period.
The Stars then added to the lead in period two with a power play goal by Vaughn Watterodt with 1:50 remaining, although Josselin Dufey answered back for Notre Dame soon after to make it 4-2.
Tanner Willick’s goal at the 5:23 mark of period three wrapped up the scoring. Shots favored Notre Dame in the game 39-25 but Ethan Hein came through with a 37-save performance.
Next for the Stars is a trip to Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon on Thursday, Oct. 24 against the Contacts.
