The Battlefords Midget Stars have earned three points in their first four games and find themselves in the middle of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings.
Although it is early in the season, the Stars are happy to be in the middle of the standings, but understand there is plenty more hockey to be played.
Saturday, the Stars shutout Yorkton to earn their first win of the season. The Stars jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a first period marker by Josh Bly. Ashton Clark, who returned to the lineup after serving a two-game suspension, and Eric Pfeifer, assisted his first goal of the season.
In the second, Terrion Belosowsky scored his first of the season from Bly and Branden Lacoursiere.
The Stars added to their lead in the third period when Pfeifer scored his first of the season from Clark and Austin Duzan. Dustin Bast added his first of the season a minute later with Maxim Powiada drawing the assist.
Rylan Toth made his third straight start of the season in net for the Stars and made 22 saves for the shutout and his first win regular season win as a Star.
Sunday, the Stars fell behind and couldn't find the back of the net until they trailed 5-0 in the third period.
Bly had the Stars' lone goal with Belosowsky and Robin Yew earning the assists, but it was too little too late, as the Harvest beat the Stars 5-1.
Toth faced 12 shots surrendering four goals and was replaced by Ryan Rewerts after nearly 27 minutes. Rewerts stopped 12 of 13 shots in his first regular season action this season.
The Stars were 0/12 with the power play Sunday and 0/7 Saturday. Yorkton was 1/18 on the weekend.
The Stars are back at home this weekend against the Moose Jaw Generals. Moose Jaw will bring their 3-1-0-0 to the Civic Centre to face the 1-2-1-0 Stars.
