Stars fall in Saskatoon to Blazers

The emotional roller coaster that has occurred between the Battlefords Midget Stars and Saskatoon Blazers this season was on display once again.

The emotional roller coaster that has occurred between the Battlefords Midget Stars and Saskatoon Blazers this season was on display once again.

After the Stars came from behind to win an exciting and intense hockey game over the Blazers Saturday, they were in Saskatoon Tuesday looking to sweep the regular season series.

Saskatoon had other ideas, as they won the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League game 5-2 on home ice and moved into a tie for eighth place in the standings.

Saskatoon went up 2-0 after the first period with goals coming from Brad Bigsby and Chris Thormbert.

In the second, they added to the lead when Lane Pederson scored twice making it 4-0.

The Stars attempted a comeback late in the second period when Terrin Belosowsky scored on a power play from Josh Bly and Robin Yew. The goal was Belosowsky's ninth of the season.

Early in the third, Stars' forward Austin Duzan netted his 14th of the season from Regan Yew and Bly making it 4-2.

That was as close as the Stars would get, as Matt McLeod scored later in the third period to seal the Blazers' first regular season win against the Stars in four games this season.

Rylan Toth started the game and was saddled with the loss. Ryan Rewerts faced 12 shots in a relief effort.

Evan Weninger stopped 32 shots for the Blazers.

The Stars dropped to 15-9-5-1 on the season and hold the fourth spot in the SMAAAHL standings.

The Stars will be back on home ice this weekend, as they host the Swift Current Legionnaires at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Civic Centre. Swift Current sits 10th in the standings and are 0-1-0-1 against the Stars this season.
