The Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League's pre-season continued for the Battlefords Midget Stars at home against the Saskatoon Blazers Thursday.

The Blazers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a power play goal and even strength marker beat Thomas Spence.

Regan Yew pulled the Stars to within a goal with seconds left in the first period, as Connor Sych drew the assist. It was Yew's fourth goal and seventh point in five exhibition games. Yew, who attended the La Ronge Ice Wolves' camp, leads the team in points through the pre-season.

Rookie forward Troy Gerein leads the team in goals with five in three games, but wasn't in the lineup Thursday.

The Stars fell 3-1, as the Blazers added a shorthanded goal in the third period, as insurance.

It was a penalty filled game, as the Stars earned 37 minutes in penalties and the Blazers had 34. The Stars were 0/6 on the power play while Saskatoon finished 1/7.

Once again, the goaltending was strong for the Stars' Ryan Rewerts made 15 saves on 16 shots in the second half. Spence was saddled with the loss after allowing two goals on 10 shots.

The Stars have dressed 24 forwards and three goalies throughout the pre-season and have one game remaining. The game was scheduled for Tuesday night in Saskatoon against the Contacts.

The Stars will jump into regular season action this weekend, as they host the Regina Pat Canadians at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. With Saturday being the home opener, Valley Ford has guaranteed the 50/50 draw to be $500.
