The Battlefords Midget Stars were shutout for the first time this season Saturday, but answered back Sunday with a win to split the weekend in Moose Jaw against the Generals.
The Stars remain in sixth place in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League after the weekend while Moose Jaw sits seven points ahead and in fourth place.
Saturday, the Stars welcomed Austin Duzan and Braden Lacoursiere back to the lineup after they were sidelined with injuries. That wasn't enough to spark the Stars' offence.
Moose Jaw scored three even strength markers in the first period to take a commanding lead.
They added three more goals in the third period, one coming on a power play, to secure the 6-0 win.
Ryland Pashovitz was the Moose Jaw game star with 26 saves. Rhett Gardner was the top offensive player with two goals and an assist in the Generals win.
Rylan Toth was in net for the Stars and made 27 saves in the loss.
Sunday's game proved to be much better for the Stars. Moose Jaw drew first blood 23 seconds into the game, but the Stars entered the first intermission with the lead.
Kent Walchuk scored his seventh goal of the season from Brian Hillis and Ryan Frehlick two minutes into the game. Later in the period, Frehlick was set up by Josh Bly and Lacoursiere for his 10th goal of the season.
Early in the second period, the Stars increased their lead when Regan Yew scored from Duzan. The goal was Yew's 14th of the season.
Ryan Rewerts stood tall in the second period in the Stars' net, as he faced, and stopped, 13 shots from the Generals and the Stars were shorthanded six times in the period.
After a power play from the second period carried over to the third, the Generals capitalized and made it a 3-2 game.
In the final minute of the game, defenceman Eric Pfeifer scored his fourth of the season from Bly and Hillis. That would stand as the game-winning goal, as Moose Jaw scored with 12 seconds left, but ran out of time with their comeback attempt.
Rewerts made 30 saves for his 11th win of the season.
The Stars now have one game in a nine-day span, as they face the Beardy's Blackhawks Thursday at the Civic Centre.
Beardy's is 2-31-1-2 on the season while the Stars are 17-14-5-1 and on the verge of making the playoffs.
