The Battlefords Midget Stars suffered their first regulation loss in November and failed to earn a point for this first time in four games.
Tuesday, the Stars were in Saskatoon to face the Contacts at Schroh Arena and fell 6-3 to the first overall Contacts.
The Stars fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal and even strength marker in the first period. But before the intermission, Maxim Powiada scored a power play goal for the Stars with Spencer Bast and Josh Bly assisting on his third goal of the season.
In the final two minutes of the first period, Regan Yew scored from Austin Duzan and Ashton Clark to make it a 2-2 game. The goal was Yew's team leading eighth goal of the season.
In the second period, the Stars were outscored 3-1 and trailed 5-3 with 20 minutes to play. The Stars' second period goal was scored by Clark, his fifth of the year, from Powiada and Dustin Bast.
Saskatoon added a goal in the third period and held on for the victory.
Rylan Toth returned to the Stars' net and made 29 saves in the loss while Brock Hamm made 19 saves for the win in the Contacts' net.
Rodney Southam, Kolten Olynek and Nelson Nogier all had three points for the Contacts while Bell MaCarthur, Jesse Shynkaruk, Jeremy Leclerc and Kade Kehoe had two points each.
The Stars fell to 5-6-2-1 on the season and into ninth place in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, but they will face the eighth place Swift Current Legionnaires twice this weekend in Swift Current. They still have an outside shot at being invited to the annual Mac's AAA Tournament in Calgary.
