The Battlefords Midget Stars had the weekend, off but before the short break they were in Saskatoon and faced the sixth place Saskatoon Blazers.
Austin Duzan returned to the Stars' lineup after missing action with a hip injury and his return provided the Stars with a spark, as he scored once and was named the team's star of the game.
Duzan scored his second goal of the season in the first period, as Ashton Clark and Maxim Powiada drew the assists. The 1-0 lead lasted the rest of the first and second periods, and the Stars increased their lead in the third period.
Rookie forward Keifer Hintz scored his second goal of the year with five minutes left making it 2-0. Josh Bly and Spencer Bast had the assists on what would be the game-winning goal.
Brad Bigsby scored for the Blazers late in the third period to break Ryan Rewerts' shutout.
Rewerts made 30 saves in the 2-1 win. Brett Lewchuk stopped 25 shots in the Blazers' net.
The Stars' power play struggled in the game going 0/10, but the penalty kill was perfect as the Blazers were 0/5.
The win moved the Stars to 5-5-2-1 on the season and they continue to hold the eighth spot out of the 12 teams in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.
Tuesday, the Stars were scheduled to be back in Saskatoon, this time to play the third overall Contacts. This weekend will be a key set for the Stars, as they travel to Swift Current to face the Legoinnaires, who are tied with the Stars in points after last weekend.
