The Humboldt Collegiate Institute girls volleyball team competed against other teams around the region on Oct. 17 and 18. Though they didn't place, coach Stacey Jackson is happy with how the tournament went overall.
"The tournament was fun and we had great student volunteers come out and help," she said. "It was a great time had by all."
The HCI team took second place in their pool of five teams but lost their first game against Davidson/Loreburn in their first round robin match, which knocked them from the playoffs. Davidson/Loreburn ended up with first place in the tournament, and Jackson said the gold medal game between Clavet and Davidson/Loreburn was "very close and very exciting."
Other teams involved in the tournament were Yellow Quill, St. Brieux, Cudworth, Annaheim, Dalmeny, Carrot River, and Walter Murray Collegiate.
Jackson believes that competing in tournaments like this is good for the girls.
"We have developed a great bond amongst the team members," she said. "They support each other on and off the court. They have come to trust each other and believe in the talent of their teammates. They have learned how to be great winners and losers."
