An opportunity is being offered by power skating instructor Jordan Trach this summer to those looking to elevate their skills.
Trach, who grew up in the Battlefords and played AAA midget there as an underaged player, played three seasons in the WHL for the Prince Albert Raiders before retiring due to injury.
Trach is offering programs starting in May that run through August.
He is also offering groups for kids in atom, pee wee, bantam, midget and junior age groups. He also plans to offer camps throughout the winter months as well.
According to his website, trachpowerskating.com, he'll be working this summer again with Curtis Kulchar who will be running off-ice training sessions. Those will focus on improving players' overall hockey conditioning, with special focus on speed, agility and explosiveness.
Jordan's sessions will focus on skating, particularly the new skating concept in the NHL described as the "glide platform." His website describes it as one of "the best techniques used to increase speed, quickness and most importantly skating efficiency."
Also planned for the summer is work on the use of players' edges, proper foot angles and the correct sequence of steps needed to start skating powerfully in the forward direction. There will be time spent working on forward and backward crossovers and transitions, and an additional focus will be on properly executing and exiting a tight turn. The movementstaught by Jordan over the summer are designed to increase speed and efficiency while reducing those choppy movements that reduce speed.
Trach has extensive experience in teaching power skating. He started out under the mentorship of Barry Karn of the Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames and has worked with NHL players including Jared Cowan, Brayden McNabb, Rickard Rakell and Ryan Murray. He has also instructed in Europe with the Swedish Elite League.
A complete list of groups is offered online at trachpowerskating.com. You can sign up on his website or follow Trach on Twitter @trachskating. To book him for a private skating group throughout the year you can contact him by email at [email protected].
