Taking aim at provincial archery competition

Before the Battle River Archers are set to take aim outside, but before they do that this weekend they wrapped up the indoor archery season at the Saskatchewan Archery Association's indoor provincial competition in Prince Alberta April 14 and 15.

Before the Battle River Archers are set to take aim outside, but before they do that this weekend they wrapped up the indoor archery season at the Saskatchewan Archery Association's indoor provincial competition in Prince Alberta April 14 and 15.

The Battlefords were well represented in many categories in the Junior Olympic Program, which was Saturday as well as the FITA competition Sunday.

Tyson Mackrell placed second in his category in JOP, which is based on the overall archer's ability, not age or equipment like the FITA competition. Tyson was third in the Olympian 285 to 300 class, the highest category. Fellow Battle River Archer Spencer Hepp also competed in that division Saturday and placed 13th.

Jaden Sack was first in the junior archer class while Tawnie Kotyk also medaled in the JOP event, as she placed first in the expert archer category Saturday. In the same division Allyssa Ask was fifth and Thomas McNinch was sixth. Keenan Buglas was the other local archer to win in JOP, as he was first in the expert Bowman division.

Three from the Battle River Archers fell into the 240 to 250 badge level, as Lalia Cann was sixth, Jacob Stynsky was ninth Josh Lilly was 10th and Shayln Fedler was 12th.

Carter Buglas and Korbin Prescesky competed in the champ Bowman and champ archer category. Caybre Stynsky competed in the master Bowman and master archer division. Ashley Hepp was fifth in the master Yeoman division while Michael Arcand was 11th and Adam Revet was 12th. Bronlyn Gubbe was seventh in the archer division. Nolan Milinthorp was sixth, Rory Ouellette was seventh, Sawyer Day was 10th and Marc Revet was 13th in the Bowman badge level.

Sunday, in the FITA competition, which is divided up by age and equipment, had all the junior local archers joined by the senior archers in Prince Albert.

The Battle River Archers won six provincial medals Sunday.

In the cadet compound event, Tyson earned his second medal of the weekend placing third. Shayln was third in the cadet female compound division. Raquel Hepp was second in the senior female compound division. Ashley was second in the peewee female compound event while Caybre was fifth. Lalia and Tawnie were in the female cub compound event and Lalia finished second while Tawnie was fifth.

The lone Battle River Archer to win gold was Spencer, who took aim in the pre-cub compound division. Korbin was fifth in the same category.

Sawyer was seventh in the peewee compound division. Jacob competed in the cub compound division and was sixth.

In the senior compound division, Rodney Fedler was fourth, Larry Mackrell was sixth, Carey Hepp was seventh and Glen Day was ninth.

Ross MacAngus was fourth in the master compound event.

The Battle River Archers are now prepared to host the 20th annual 3D Outdoor Tournament Saturday and Sunday. The tournament will be held at a new location 15 kilometres west of Battleford on Highway 40, then three kilometres south on the Prongue Grid and from there follow the signs to Eagle Hills Outfitters. The outdoor shoot will be a SAA qualifier and is open to competitive and noncompetitive archers.
