4A Boys
It was originally scheduled to be a six-team bracket for the conference basketball playoffs at John Paul II on the weekend, but at the last minute, Bedford Road backed out of the competition.
Still four of the five teams knew they would advance from the John Paul II bracket to regionals. In the first game, the host team took on Martensville. John Paul II trailed 16-15 after the first quarter, but Dexter Mercer led the Crusaders attack with 21 points and helped them on to the 51-47 win.
John Paul II advanced to play Meadow Lake after that and it was the Spartans winning 90-50 to advance to the final where they would face Marion Graham from Saskatoon. Mercer again led the Crusaders in points.
Marion Graham won 84-50 to earn the conference gold medal.
North Battleford Comprehensive High School fell 72-36 to Marion Graham, but won the third place game over Martensville to advance to regionals. NBCHS was tied 12-12 after the first quarter and pulled away in the second only to win a close game 69-62. James Miller led the Vikings in points in the game.
NBCHS will play in regionals at Warman with Regina O'Neill and Meadow Lake.
John Paul II advanced to the next step and will play in the regional bracket with Moose Jaw Peacock, Swift Current and the host Prince Albert St. Mary.
Yorkton Regional, Weyburn, Moose Jaw Central, Marion Graham, Regina Miller, Balgonie, Melfort and Humboldt all advanced to regionals as well.
4A Girls
NBCHS and the John Paul II girls' teams were both competing in Saskatoon at Bedford Road.
John Paul II was knocked out in their first game after losing 85-31 to Swift Current.
NBCHS earned a spot at regionals after beating Bedford Road 72-30 and Warman 50-41. NBCHS played Meadow Lake in the final and came up just short, losing 45-41.
NBCHS will host 4A girls' regionals this weekend, as Moose Jaw Central, Weyburn and Prince Albert St. Mary will be attending.
Moose Jaw Peacock, Regina Luther, Balgonie, Prince Albert Carlton, Meadow Lake, Melfort, Swift Current, Humboldt, Notre Dame, Warman, Estevan and Regina Miller will also be playing in regionals across the province.
3A Boys
Onion Lake hosted six teams at conference playoffs and it was Unity prevailing with the 51-37 win in the final over the host Eagleview squad. Unity also beat La Loche 50-42 in the semifinal while Eagleview edged Hillmond 68-44. St. Walburg and Rossignol also lost to Hillmond at conference playoffs by 65-36 and 59-54 scores.
The regional bracket will feature Regina Christian, Delisle, Caronport, Fort Qu'Appelle, Osler, La Loche, Indian Head, Eagleview, Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Yorkton Sacred Heart, Watrous, Clavet, Hillmond, Moosomin and Unity.
3A Girls
Unity hosted 3A conference playoffs and beat Meadow Lake Jonas Samson in the final 73-38. Unity also beat Eagleview 57-35, as four teams from this conference playoff advanced to regionals. Kindersley was the lone team not to advance.
Spiritwood played off in another conference playoffs at P.A. Rivier and, after losing their first game 62-47, they were beat by Delisle 79-37.
Lumsden, Caronport, Indian Head and Clavet will all host regional playoff games on the weekend. The host teams will be joined by Macklin, Meadow Lake Jonas Samson, PA Rivier, Kamsack, Delisle, Regina Christian, Unity, Outlook, Moosomin, Eagleview, Sandy Bay and Assiniboia.
2A Boys
In Lashburn, the host team was knocked out of contention by Twin Lakes and Minahik Waskahigan beat Maidstone. Twin Lakes won 61-50 and Minahik Waskahigan won 75-65 before winning the final 75-54.
The regional playoffs, which are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, will include Macklin, Creighton, Canora, Rosthern Junior College, Asquith, Saskatoon Christian, Se Se Wa Hum, Twin Lakes, Sandy Bay, Balcarres, Hanley, Birch Hills, Stobart, Regina Harvest City, Kelvington and Minahik Waskahigan.
2A Girls
In St. Walburg, the host team hammered on Minahik Waskahigan 68-12 in the semifinal and beat Rossignol in the final 66-30. Rossignol beat Makwa 56-36 to punch their ticket to regionals.
In Wilkie the host team cruised through to regionals with a 48-31 win over Maidstone and a 67-46 win over Turtleford. Turleford qualified for provincials after beating Lashburn 38-35. There were five teams competing and because of that Maidstone and Cando start a bracket behind the rest of the teams, but it was Maidstone earning the 80-16 win in that game.
Turlteford, Wilkie, St. Walburg and Rossignol will be joined by Wynyard, LCBI, Birch Hills, Shaunavon, Foam lake, Langham, Meath Park, Asquith, Rosthern Junior College, Norquay, Osler and Canora.
1A Boys
Maymont hosted a conference playoff Saturday and it was Hepburn coming away the winners while Chief Poundmaker earned second place and a spot at regionals as well. Poundmaker had a strong fourth quarter to down Maymont 65-42 in semifinal action. Hepburn beat Blaine Lake 64-30 in the other semifinal game and went on to beat Poundmaker 75-60 in the conference final.
In Big River, the host team won their first game 52-45 over Makwa, but lost 76-25 to Beauval Valley View. Thunderchild and Glaslyn faced off for a chance to advance to regionals and it was Thunderchild coming away with the 69-29 win. Thunderchild lost in the conference final to Beauval Valley View 59-45.
Beauval Valley View, Thunderchild, Poundmaker, and Hepburn will be joined in the regional bracket by St. Brieux, Stoughton, Ecole Canadienne, Wolseley, Regina Laval, Lipton Conronach, Stugis, Fillmore, Herbert, Middle Lake and LCBI.
1A Girls
Edam, Paradise Hill and Kerrobert played off in a conference bracket with Paradise Hill coming away the champions. In the first game, it was tight all the way, as Paradise Hill prevailed with a 53-48 win. In the conference final, Kerrobert had a bye, but lost to Paradise Hill 41-38.
The 1A girls' regional bracket includes Kerrobert, Paradise Hill, Herbert, Milestone, Lake Lenore, Frontier, Middle Lake Loreburn, Hepburn, Gladmar, Kinistino, Kenaston, Regina Harvest City, Conronach, Montmarte and Fillmore.
