Humboldt's Brianne Theisen-Eaton set a Canadian record and came away with a silver medal in the pentathlon on the first day of the International Association for Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Indoor Championships.

Theisen-Eaton beat her own Canadian record of 4555 points, set in 2012, by recording a score of 4768 points on March 7 at the event in Sopot, Poland. She kicked the five-event competition off by winning the 60 metre hurdles in a time of 8.13 seconds. She high jumped 1.84 metres, shot put a personal best of 13.86 metres, measured a long jump of 6.13 metres and finished the 800-metre race in a time of 2:10.07.

Theisen-Eaton normally competes in the heptathlon, which consists of seven events, but for women that is reduced to five events for indoor meets.
