She's going to the Olympics.
Brianne Theisen, 23, Humboldt's own track phenom, qualified to compete for Canada at the London 2012 Olympic Games at the Canadian Olympic trials in Calgary last week.
She finished second in the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 6393 points.
The heptathlon is a track and field combined events contest made up of seven events - 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m dash, long jump, javelin and 800m run.
Theisen had already reached the Olympic A standard of 6,150 points last month, and so only needed a top-three result at the trials to finalize her trip to London.
On May 6, Theisen, who is a senior at the University of Oregon, set a new NCAA Pac12 record of 6,353 points at the conference championship.
At the Olympic trials, she finished second to Jessica Zelinka of London, Ontario, who posted 6,599 points - the third-best score in the world this year.
The women's heptathlon event at the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games will be held over two days from August 3 to August 4.
The event begins with the 100m hurdles at 10:05 a.m. London time on Friday, August 3. With the time difference, that's 3:05 a.m. here.
High jump is the next event, scheduled for 11:15 a.m., followed by shot put at 7 p.m. (noon Humboldt time) and the 200m at 8:45 p.m.
Long jump will be held Saturday, August 4 at 10:05 a.m., followed by javelin at 11:40 a.m. and the 800 m at 8:35 p.m.
This trip to the Olympics has been a long time coming for Humboldt's track and field star, whose talent on the field made her stand out even while attending elementary school in Humboldt.
In high school at Humboldt Collegiate Institute, she participated in other sports such as volleyball and soccer, but found herself at her strongest when competing in track and field combined events, winning provincial medals in many events.
Theisen represented Canada at the 2005 World Youth Championships in Athletics, coming in 17th.
She won the national junior heptathlon championship in 2006, and participated in the 2006 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Beijing.
When she won the gold medal at the 2007 Pan American Junior Championships, again in the heptathlon, her fans at home began to hope that they would one day see her at the Olympics.
After high school, she only got better.
She enrolled at the University of Oregon and broke a number of school records in her first three years while winning back-to-back NCAA heptathlon title in 2009 and 2010.
She also won twice at the NCAA Indoor Championship, including a collegiate pentathlon record in 2011.
Brianne is the daughter of Cal and Kim Theisen of Humboldt.
