It is a school that proves you don't have to be big to have talent.
The 10th annual Three Lakes Avenger Athletics Awards banquet was held on June 14 at Three Lakes School in Middle Lake.
It was a day of celebration for the students, who saw the rewards of their hard work and dedication that night, said teacher Trevor Otsig.
Some of the highlights for the Avengers this year were the Senior Girls' Soccer team winning the provincial gold, hosting provincial cross-country meet and winning gold, numerous pre-district and district wins, and 12 athletes participating in provincial track, bringing back two silver and two bronze medals.
This year, the athletes brought in Taylor Johnson, captain of the Humboldt Broncos, as their guest speaker.
"I think a lot of people don't understand the dedication that goes into being a student athlete," said Johnson.
Johnson, who was a high school athlete himself, told the students to keep up the dedication to their sports.
He explained when he was in high school, he played both football and hockey, along with various other school sports.
Each day he would juggle practices and school work just to play his sports.
Although he didn't always win during his games, that was not how he determined success.
"What I think success is is when I knew there wasn't one more thing I could do (to win)," said Johnson.
He explained that winning wasn't everything, that what he did and how he played was more important.
It was the determination which made him captain of the Broncos.
Johnson also encouraged the athletes to keep up their dedication to sports not only for the activity, but also for the memories and friendships they form.
"What I will miss most is the people I shed blood, sweat and tears with," said Johnson.
