The Battlefords Midget Stars hold the eighth spot in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings after earning three of a possible four points on home ice.

"We were happy with getting three of four points," said Stars head coach Martin Smith. "We felt as a group that we should have had all four points."

The Stars hosted the Yorkton Harvest, who fell to 3-8-0-1 after the weekend. The Stars now sit at 4-5-2-1.

Saturday, the Stars lost a hard-fought battle 3-2 in overtime. Landon Nichol scored on a backhand for the Harvest in the extra frame to complete the comeback.

The Stars led 2-0 in the game, a second and third period goal from Yorkton forced overtime. Regan Yew netted his sixth of the season just 11 seconds into the game, as Brian Hillis drew the assist.

In the second, Spencer Bast scored unassisted on a power play to put the Stars up 2-0 goals.

Shortly after the Stars earned the 2-0 lead Chase McKersie scored for Yorkton on a power play.

Levi Morin scored on a third period power play for Yorkton to tie the game.

"We have to learn from those mistakes and Sunday we bounced back with a good team effort," said Smith.

Ryan Rewerts made 36 saves in the game Saturday and was given a chance for redemption Sunday, as he started back-to-back games for the first time this season.

"The plan was to split the weekend, but Ryan has played really well and deserved the start," said Smith after Toth was on the weekend as well. "He (Rewerts) has some confidence now and heading into the game in Saskatoon Thursday we are going to give him another opportunity and he has the hot hand right now."

Rewerts' workload was reduced Sunday, as the Stars played a strong defence game and had several power play opportunities in the game including six in the third period where the Stars scored four power play goals.

The Stars finished the night 5/13 with the man advantage.

"We practiced a lot on the power play and penalty kill this year and to be able to capitalize on the power play is huge for the confidence of a team," said Smith.

Ashton Clark was a thorn in the Harvest players' side all night, as he was positioned in front of Yorkton goaltender Spencer Bomboir on most power plays.

Clark got the scoring started when he scored on a first period power play from defencemen Braden Lacoursiere and Robin Yew.

The Stars added a shorthanded goal in the second period when Terrin Belowsky scored from Bast and Jaiden Focht.

Yorkton pulled to within a goal in the second when Dakota Odgers scored on a power play.

In the third period it was all Stars' as they put 26 shots at the net and Regan Yew, Bast, Clark and Corbin Schmidt all scored on the power play to secure the win.

Schmidt's goal came on a point shot and was his first goal as a Star.

Robin Yew, Lacoursiere, Eric Pfeifer, Ryan Fehlick and Maxim Powiada all had assists in the third period while Josh Bly, who leads the team in points with 12 had two assist sin the final frame.

"The guys stepped up," said Smith after noting one of the veterans, Austin Duzan, was sidelined with a hip injury on the weekend. "One of the things we have been preaching is discipline. The veteran core has really stepped up.
