Three SJHL teams among countries best

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's defending champions are 9-4-1-0 and not ranked in the countries top 20 teams.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's defending champions are 9-4-1-0 and not ranked in the countries top 20 teams.

However, although the Broncos aren't one the Canadian Junior Hockey League's list this week, three other SJHL teams are ranked in the top eight in the country.

Yorkton fell from sixth eighth while Flin Flon moved up from the 10th spot to seventh this week. The top SJHL team on the CJHL top 20 ranking is Melville, as the Millionaires jumped from seventh for fourth.

The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are positioned in first once again.

The Source Embroidery Power Rankings have the Millionaires also positioned on top, as they moved from third to first with a 12-2-0-1 record. Yorkton's 10-3-0-1 record dropped the Terriers from first to second and Flin Flon moved up one spot into third place.

The Battlefords North Stars dropped to ninth place after climbing to seventh last week. The North Stars are 5-7-0-0 on the season. A positive note for the North Stars is that two players, Josh Betinol and Jake McMillen, were listed in the league's who's hot weekly notes. Betinol has five goals and two assists in six games and also earned a spot at the Team West World Junior A Challenge Selection Camp in Calgary. Betinol was one of seven SJHLers joining 53 others vying for one of 22-spots on the team's roster.

The North Stars' other young star who has been hot as of late, McMillen, has three goals and six assists in seven games.

SJHL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:

He SJHL players of the week were announced and Ian McNulty earned the honour of player of the week. He had two goals and five assists in three games with Melville. He is now the league leader in points with seven goals and 17 assists in 15 games.

The defenceman of the week was Nipawin Hawk Jeff Datoff. He had three assists in three games.

The rookie for the week was Estevan Bruins forward Darcy DeRoose. DeRoose played just one game last week and it was against the North Stars. He notched two goals and an assists in the 4-1 win.

The top goaltender honour for the week went to Devin Buffalo of the Flin Flon Bombers. Buffalo had back-to-back shutouts. He stopped 24 and 14 shots in two games and is now 9-2 on the season.
