Three strikes for Saulteaux 3 Stars

Wednesday, the SPHL league executive held a special meeting and issued a deadline of Friday for the Saulteaux 3 Stars to pay their fines for missing meetings and using an ineligible player last weekend among other things.

Saulteaux is officially done for this season and will not play in the playoffs, but if they don't meet the Friday deadline they will not be able to be reinstated for next season and their suspension will be turned into a band from the league.

The league's code of ethics states: "The SPHL is a working man's league. The players can expect to play one day and show up for work the next day.

The SPHL is more important then any individual team. While each team wishes to win, a team cannot take actions that are a detriment to the league or undermine the league.

The SPHL executive(s) must be shown respect even when a league ruling goes against a particular team."

The executive ruled that Saulteaux was not abiding by those stipulations and for that are in jeopardy of being removed from the league for good.

Saulteaux's final two games were turned into losses meaning Glaslyn and Cut Knife both earn wins from the league's decision.

Now that the league has been reduced to seven teams for the playoffs, the first overall team will get a first round by with the seventh place team playing the second place team, third will play sixth and fourth and fifth will face off.

Saulteaux used an ineligible player in their game against the Battleford Beaver Blues Saturday and that player earned a gross misconduct and a fighting major in the game.

The SHA may look into the matter further, holding Saulteaux coaches responsible.
