After losing their first two games of the season to the Humboldt Broncos in overtime and in a shootout last weekend, the Notre Dame Hounds took matters into their own hands Thursday.

The Hounds outshot the Yorkton Terriers by a 17-3 margin in the opening frame and fired three shots into the back of the net during the first period as they cruised to a 6-1 win in Wilcox.

Colby Brandt led the way for the hosts with a goal and three assists, which gives him seven points in three games and moves him into a tie for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s scoring lead with Estevan’s Zach Goberis.

Chance Longjohn had a goal and two assists in the win, while blueliners Alexandre Desgagnes and Max Salpeter both dished out a pair of helpers.

Curtis Wiebe and Marshall Wilton also had multi-point nights with a goal and an assist each.

Chaz Smedsrud and Connor Mylymok rounded out the scoring for the Hounds, who received a 13-save performance from Jack Ryan.

Shane Sherban had the lone goal for the Terriers, while goaltender Logan Bateman was busy all night in making 41 saves.

Prior to the game, the Terriers announced that highly-touted goaltender Nolan Maier had signed a contract with the team for the 2017-18 campaign.

The 16-year-old from Yorkton was a second round pick by the Saskatoon Blades in the 2017 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft but was reassigned by the team earlier this week in favour of former Battlefords North Stars netminder Joel Grzybowski.

Maier played for the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League’s Yorkton Maulers last season, where he had a 13-9 -0 record with a 2.72 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.
