The Notre Dame Hounds now find themselves in first place in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s extremely tight Sherwood Division.

Following a 6-1 win at home Thursday over the Flin Flon Bombers, the Hounds have 12 points this year and are a single marker ahead of the Battlefords North Stars, Humboldt Broncos and the Kindersley Klippers, though the North Stars do have four games in hand over their divisional rivals.

The Hounds were led on offence by Zack Kosteniuk’s two-goal evening, while Chaz Smedsrud, Jared Hamm and Nolan Renwick all had a pair of assists.

Chance Longjohn had a goal and an assist each for the hosts, who got their other goals from Ahmed Ally, Riley Perk and Alec Zawatsky.

Dawson McKenzie had the lone goal for the Bombers.

In other game on the schedule, the Estevan Bruins fired 53 shots at La Ronge Ice Wolves netminder Luke Lush on their way to a 6-3 triumph at Affinity Place.

Zach Goberis potted home two goals for the Bruins, while Hayden Guilderson had a goal and an assist.

Jake Heerspink, Kaelan Holt and Tyson Manz also found the back of the net in the victory.

Connor Smith scored twice for the Ice Wolves, who got their other goal from Shane Hounsell.
