When asked about Tisdale Trojans captain Luke Arndt, head coach Darrell Mann said simply, “he’s a prototypical leader.”

“He is a very vocal leader and he definitely leads by example,” Mann said. “He is one of the best captains we’ve had here in Tisdale in a number of years. We are really excited to have him leading our group.”

Arndt, a defenceman from Weyburn who turns 17 next month, said it means a lot to him to be chosen as captain.

“I’m honoured to have a such great group of guys and coaches that want me to lead the team and I will do my best to do so,” he said.

This is a special season for the Trojans. They are hosting the Telus Cup West Regional tournament in April 4 to 7. The victor advances from that event to play in the midget AAA national championships in Thunder Bay.

“We have a great opportunity in our hands,” Arndt said. “I’m looking forward to showing everyone we deserve to be hosting and hopefully move on to the real deal.”

Arndt is expected to play a key role this season. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound blue liner is routinely paired with Dylan Ashe. In the injured Ashe’s absence, he has often played next to Blake Samida or Jeremy Hancock. Arndt’s hockey IQ and communication skills are important for the Trojans.

“He does everything well,” Mann said. “He is such a vocal leader. He is like another coach on the ice... directing traffic, helping them out, and telling them what to do.”

The veteran bench boss praised Arndt’s contagious work ethic and his personality.

“He does anything for anybody on our team. You know what you are getting from him every night. He gives you a 100 and 10 per cent. You know you are going to get that. The rest of the players follow that.”

This is Arndt’s second season with the Trojans after playing midget AA for a year with Weyburn. He said Tisdale is a lovely community and he has enjoyed his billets, Dennis and Carmelle Kubat.

“The best part of playing for the Trojans would simply be playing on the Trojans.” Arndt said. “It’s a daily routine and I love everything about it.”
