For 11 years, Karen Warington has coached athletes in the Battlefords in the North Battleford Legion Track Club and once again the season ended with some podium finishes.
The club practises twice a week beginning in October and March 16 and 17 marked the end of the season for nearly all of the 25 athletes.
Eleven athletes from the local club competed in the Saskatoon Kinsmen Indoor meet while two others competed the next weekend at the Aboriginal Games.
In Saskatoon, Brooklyn Cockburn had an impressive weekend earning gold in midget girls' shot put with a toss of 9.3m.
Brooklyn was also a quarter of the midget girls 4x100m team that took bronze. The other midget relay team members were Keri Rak and Megan Yockey. They called up bantam-aged Ali Lesmeister to complete the team.
Four peewee girls, Jenifer Ross, Jessica Cockburn, Jessica Heidt and Kaitlyn Yockey finished second in the 4x100m relay.
Bantam boys Sid Hanson-Ironstand and Dalyn Ahenakew joined with two runners from Kinderlsey for the 4x100m relay and placed third.
The Bantam and peewee competition also doubled as the provincial competition meaning Sid and the relay members won provincial bronze.
Sid also won bronze in the triathlon.
Sid and Dalyn also competed in the Aboriginal Track and Field Championships in Saskatoon March 31. Sid won three gold medals and silver while Dalyn had a fifth place finish. Sid's gold medals came in high jump, long jump and the 60m dash while he earned silver in shot put.
