It wasn't the best of days, it wasn't the worst of days, but it was a Thursday and it was surprising that there were 36 New Horizon members show up to golf.It only goes to show you they have not all lost it.
There was no doubt who the winners were because they were the only team to come in with a 38.It is also not surprising that Bernie Meisner, Herman Friesen along with the Whitbreads, Jutta and Lyle comprised that team.
To determine who was second and third was a problem as three teams came in one stroke back of the leaders.The birdie on nine gave the Partingtons along with Merv Zulynik and Lynn Williams second place while a par saw Gerry Bristow, Jim Fraser, Bruce Dalshaug and Fay MacKinnon take home the "show" money.
The last team out on the tee Thursday was the most honest team and to them goes the consolation prize.They were John Chomyn, Hank Nickel, Joe Gabruch and Faye Carson and they were only one stroke more than three other teams that played.
Because of the Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club the New Horizons were moved to Thursday, but this week they were back on their usual time slot.
Before golfing Monday, some New Horizons congregated on the practice green to present a cheque of $2,500 to Heath Gabruch and David Schell from the Raise the Roof Fundraising committee.The donation completes the organizations pledge of $7,500 towards the new curling rink.
Once the golfing began, eight teams went on to play.
The top team at even par was that of Dalshaug, Dick Blom, Bernie Meisner and Wally Gordey.Gordey also had the longest putt of the day and gets his car washed courtesy of the Co-op.
Second place goes to Bruce Lotts, Ali Raycraft, Friesen and Ray Hoover.They were two over, but their birdie on nine gave them second spot over two other teams.
The next winner, also on a count back, was that of Brodie and Eva Partington with Dale Cain and David O'Donnell.O'Donnell also gets an extra ball for coming closest to the pin on eight.
The New Horizons play again on Monday with the first group taking the tee at 8:30 a.m.
