The Cut Knife Colts weren't suppose to beat the defending Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League champs in the first round of the playoffs, but they must not have received the memo.

The Colts beat Maymont 3-2 in game two of the series to advance to the semifinal and take on the Battleford Beaver Blues.

The Beaver Blues had a first round bye, but that didn't scare the Colts, as they went into Battleford Wednesday and won 2-1 in overtime. Dallas Sperle and Mitch Hawtin, the goaltenders, went save for save with each other until the Colts capitalized five minutes into overtime to take the 1-0 series lead in front of a large crowd.

Game two goes in Cut Knife Friday with game three of the best-of-five series back in Battleford Saturday.

Glaslyn needed to win back-to-back games against Hafford to avoid the upset and did so after a 4-3 win and a 3-2 overtime win, advancing to be in the final four.

Perdue downed Radisson in the first round of playoffs with 7-5 and 5-4 wins and advance to face Glaslyn.

Game one in Glaslyn Wednesday saw Perdue earning the 5-3 win to take control of the series. The action resumes Friday in Perdue.

In the SPHL's second season, three of the four teams remaining are in their first season in the league, with the Battleford Beaver Blues being the lone original team fighting for the championship.
