It was more of the same for the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings senior football team Friday, as they improved to 2-0 for the season with 30-13 road win over the Warman Wolverines.

“The way things played out pretty similar to our opening game against Evan Hardy last week,” Vikings head coach Mike Humenny said.  “Our goal was to establish the run game early on, which allowed us to open up things on offence.

“We challenged our defence to come out of the gates stronger than they had so far this year, and that was probably the biggest difference as they were ready to go right from the get go.”

JT Lamb had another great afternoon in the rushing department, but it was the unsung heroes on the offensive line that impressed Humenny.

“When he had a chance to look at the film in the days after the game, they were creating holes and it was basically a wall moving down the field to help out our running backs,” Humenny said.

“The defence was pretty similar in having a strong group performance. Our linebacker play was a lot better, with returning starters Nolan Mutch and Karstin Rawlyk leading the way for us.”

The Vikings will continue their four-game road trip to start off the season Thursday in Saskatoon as they’ll take on the 1-1 Tommy Douglas Tigers.

“That will be our toughest test of the year to date, as they’ve played really well in both games,” Humenny said.
