It was Friday night football under the lights at Beaver Lions Stadium. The Vikings' offence had stalled throughout the game, and the defence was holding them in the game looking for the spark to turn things around.
Unfortunately, that spark didn't come for the North Battleford Comprehensive High School football team, as they hosted the Prince Albert St. Mary Marauders.
The Marauders scored in the first quarter when tailback Bryant Sackney ran the ball in from 25 yards out.
The Vikings big play on offence in the first quarter came on a Taylor Reiley pass to Trevor Payne, but they couldn't produce any points on the drive.
NBCHS offence was held off the scoreboard in the first half, and in fact, the Vikings' offence was held scoreless for the second straight game. The points came on a missed field goal that resulted in a single point and the defence forced a safety. The Vikings fell 15-3 to the Marauders for their second loss of the season.
Prince Albert's second score of the game came with second-string quarterback George Liberio under centre. After August Skrudlund was forced to leave the game in the fourth quarter, Liberio ran the offence. Liberio's number was called frequently and the Marauders attempted to mainly use him and Sackney to run the ball and run out the clock. Liberio scored on a quarterback draw play in the fourth quarter and that sealed the Vikings' fate.
Tanner Craig was the featured running back in the Vikings' offence, as head coach Jamie Sommerfeld said at halftime that the Vikings were planning to continue with the ground and pound attack.
They did that, but were unable to score against the Marauders.
The Vikings' next game will be Thursday in Saskatoon against the 0-2 Marion Graham Falcons.
The Vikings next home game is Oct. 4 against Mount Royal.
