A new season and fresh start for the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings football program is set to begin.
The Vikings held training camp on the weekend with a strong contingent of players suited up to join in the rich tradition of Vikings' football.
The Vikings graduated more than 12 players from last year's team meaning some holes were left to be filled and players from last season were changing positions to help fill the void.
Perhaps the biggest adjustment will be at quarterback. Cody Buziak and Cole Tenetuik, the two players under centre last year, have graduated and whoever fills the spot this season will be learning on the go.
Helping out the new quarterback will be the running game, which head coach Jamie Sommerfeld says will be the feature of the team's offence.
With all the players on the starting offensive line weighing in at least 225 pounds, there will be a lot of force in those players creating the holes for the running backs and a good chance they will keep the quarterbacks all but untouched.
The Vikings will continue to practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as they prepare for their first game of the season in Saskatoon against Bishop James Mahoney Thursday.
The Vikings first home game is scheduled for Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. against Prince Albert St. Mary at Beaver Lions Stadium.
