The North Battleford Comprehensive High School wrestling team traveled to Prince Albert for a regional tournament on the weekend.

Friday night, the wrestlers had a practice with a wrestler from Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association where polished their moves and learned some new ones.

Saturday was a double elimination bracket tournament with the top wrestlers earning spots to provincials. In order to advance to provincials the wrestlers had to be in the top four of their weight class.

Participating in the competition from NBCHS were Tristan Smith, Nick Buck, Wei Liu, Tyler Sali, Schalk Engelbrecht, Liam Burns, Erica Landrie, Anna Close, Kayla Erhardt, Taylor Reily and Taisley Isaac.

Schalk and Erica won all their matches putting them in first. Schalk competes in the 82kg class, which featured six other wrestlers at regionals. Taylor and Kayla finished third and Taisley was fourth.

Missing out on a chance at provincials were Liam and Nicolas, who finished in fifth place, Wei and Anna in sixth place and Tristan and Tyler ended their regional experience in seventh place in their weight classes.

As the five wrestlers prepare for provincials, the rest of the team's season is finished. Although they did not qualify for provincials they did well considering most of them were first year wrestlers.

Close wrestling rivals from Wilkie, Celina Risling, Megan Weber, Matt Grbic, Cole Veit, Nick Nielson, Rylan Petterson, Cody Black and Kyle Risling, all also qualified for provincials at the University of Regina this weekend.
