The weather often has an effect on the end of the golf season and fortunately for the North Battleford Golf and Country Club it was a positive effect this season.

The weather was beautiful to golf on the weekend and it showed, as 131 golfers participated in the fall scramble, the last tournament of the season at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

Finishing tied at 142 on the ladies' side was the team of Cheryl Hartl, Cindy Bartko, Irene Verhoeven, Cheryl Cook and Lori Stark and the team of Janet George, Connie Ulmer, Donna Weber, Bonnie Ernest and Judy Jamieson. Both teams shot 70s Saturday and 72s Sunday.

The third place team was one stroke back and included Deanna Klusa, Darcy Tkatchuk, Bernice McRann, Katherine Coats and Kate Morin.

There were seven ladies' teams consisting of five golfers each.

At the top of the men's field, which consisted of 96 golfers, was the team of Bryce Bohun, George MacGregor, David George, Keith Scherr, Brian Murray and Don Murray. The winning team shot 54 in the scramble Saturday and 55 Sunday. The field ranged from 109 to 122 among the 16 men's teams.

Second place went to Marty Friedrich, Brue Yockey, Don Sankey, Len Taylor, Howard Linnell and John Kabaroff, as they finished with 111. The third place team, at 112, was Dave Wilson, Randy Graham, Chris Swanson, Keith Bell, Gary Kaczynski and Claude Huot.

Also included in the tournament for the first time was a feature where the teams guessed what they would shoot during Saturday's round. Three teams guessed their right score and had a chip off. The team of Debbie MacGregor, Patt Steiert, Barb Mitchell, Bea Prulti and Fran Hornsby won the Gus McEachern memorial portion of the draw. Half the money raised goes to the winning team while the rest was donated to Canadian Cancer Society in honour of McEachern, who was a member of the golf club and passed away this summer.

Director of golf at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club Dane Johnson explained it is something they hope to include with the fall scramble on an annual basis.

The North Battleford Golf and Country Club will close the gate on the 2012 season Oct. 14.
