The Humboldt Broncos and Melfort Mustangs continued their winning ways on the road Wednesday night, as both teams improved to 3-0 in the early stages of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season.
Derek Patter had a goal and an assist, while Conner Lukan dished out two helpers for the Broncos as they edged out the host Kindersley Klippers by a score of 3-2.
Blueliners Antonio DiPaolo and Quinn Schneidmiller also scored for the Broncos, who received a 16-save performance from Sam-Jaxon Visscher.
Nikolas Malencia and Tanner Thompson answered for the Klippers, who were shutout in their first two games of the season by the Battlefords North Stars.
Meanwhile, Tanner Zentner’s goal and assist helped to lead the way for the Mustangs in their 3-1 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
Jaxon Joseph and Justin Ball had the other goals for the visitors, while Evan Plotnik’s only blemish in between the pipes came when Jason Bednarski scored in the first period.
Luke Lush was busy in goal once again for La Ronge as turned aside 35 shots.
The Mustangs also made a trade prior to Wednesday’s game, as they dealt forward Hunter Buzzi to the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s Fort Frances Lakers for a player development fee.
Buzzi, an 18-year-old from Ignace, Ont., had no points in two games for the Mustangs after playing for the Kenora Thistles in the Manitoba Midget Hockey League for the last two years.
It will be a return of sorts to the Lakers for Buzzi, as he had three assists in three games as an affiliate player last year.
