Wheat Kings and Settlers will play at least two more

The rivalry during the regular season between Maymont and Radisson, two communities separated by 25 kilometres, was anything but heated.

Not anymore.

After facing each other six times in the regular season and now twice in the playoffs, both teams have their sights set on the first ever Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League championship.

In game one Sunday, Dana Derbowka, Trevor Duchak and Kenton Haugrud each scored twice while Jade Boklaschuk had a single putting Radisson up 1-0 in the series.

After Maymont's Kenton Albert received a suspension in game one, the two teams were back in action Wednesday in Radisson. Without their leading scorer from the regular season Maymont came out ready to play. Radisson did as well, as it was a physical emotional game with strong goaltending.

Duchak scored for the Wheat Kings, but it was Chris Beierle redirecting a shot by Nathan Wurst and Tyson Poitras putting home the game winner for Maymont.

Mat Leitner played great in the Settlers goal earning the win and got lucky once or twice as well, especially late in the third period when Haugrud rang a shot off the post.

Games three and four will be played Friday in Maymont and Sunday in Radisson.
