They are the hottest team in the Battlefords and the hottest team in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League.

The Battlefords Phoenix Sports Bantam AA Barons are undefeated in 2012. In 10 games, the Barons are 6-0-4 and moved up the North Division standings into fourth place.

Wednesday, the Barons hosted the West Central Wheat Kings at the Civic Centre and busted out of the gate with three first-period goals. Owen Lamb, Layne Young and Brandon Lesko tallied for the Barons while Wyatt Malenfant turned away all the West Central first period chances.

In the second period the Barons surrendered four goals, three on the power play, as they took five minor penalties in the second period.

Troy Gerein and Keegan Duret scored for the Barons in the second period.

In the third, with a lead of 5-4, the Barons filled the net with four unanswered goals to claim the 9-4 victory. Colton Iron had a third period hat trick while Duret scored the other Battlefords goal.

Along with the hat trick, Iron had two assists and leads the team with 30 goals and 18 assists in 20 games.

Sunday, the Barons tied the North East Wolfpack 3-3 in Melfort and beat West Central 9-4 in Dodsland.

Malenfant was in net for the tie in Melfort while Matthew Flatt earned the win in Dodsland.

The Barons have two just two games remaining in the regular season and sit just one point back of West Central for third spot in the division with a game in hand.

The Barons will be at home to the Prince Albert Venice House Raiders Feb. 17 and Feb. 18 they will host the North East Wolfpack. Both games will be played at the Battleford Arena.
