Wilkie stays on top of NSRHL standings

The defending champion Wilkie Outlaws continued their strong start to the NSRHL season last weekend coming away with wins over the Turtleford Tigers and the Maidstone Jets.

The defending champion Wilkie Outlaws continued their strong start to the NSRHL season last weekend coming away with wins over the Turtleford Tigers and the Maidstone Jets.

The Outlaws put three goals past Tigers' goalie Jesse Ehnisz in the first period and did not look back from there. Wilkie beat the Tigers 6-1 on Friday night in Turtleford, led by Will Rathje's goal and two assists. Mitch Suchan scored twice, while Dustin Glackin, Andrew Herle and Kyle Wagner added goals for the Outlaws. Garret Macnab scored the lone goal for the Tigers.

Also on Friday night, the Maidstone Jets scored four times in the first to pace themselves to a 5-1 win over the Edam 3 Stars at home. Teddy Bear, Jayden Beaubien, Rory Gregoire, Troy Johnston, and Dave Richard each scored for Maidstone. Mitch Wall beat winning goaltender Andrew Boychuk for Edam's only goal.

Wilkie returned home on Saurday to face off against the Jets. The Outlaws stayed undefeated on the season with a 9-4 win over visiting Maidstone.

With two wins last weekend, Wilkie is now tied with the St. Walburg Eagles for first place in the NSRHL.

There are four games in the NSRHL this weekend. The Meadow Lake Stampeders head to Maidstone to take on the Jets. Puck drop is at 9 p.m. Friday night.

Three games are on the schedule for Saturday with both first place teams in action. St. Walburg hosts the Edam 3 Stars and Wilkie heads to Meadow Lake. The Turtleford Tigers try to get their first win when they host Maidstone. Each game starts at 8:30 p.m.
