Nearly two months of football flew by for Battlefords Minor Football, as improvements were continuously made throughout the season from the Grade 5, 6, 7 and 8 players.
In early May, 67 players and 15 coaches took to the field in the second season of Battlefords Minor Football in hopes of improving their fundamental skills and learning the basics of football.
After establishing the basics of blocking, tackling, throwing, running and receiving the large group was divided into four teams and scrimmaged after three weeks of practice.
Along with practices twice a week, the Battlefords players had an opportunity to play against other communities. June 9 BMF travelled to Prince Albert for the Minor Football Jamboree. The Battlefords organization was split into three teams, the peewee team (Grade 5 and 6) played two games against Prince Albert. The bantam aged players (Grade 7 and 8) were split into two teams and played against Prince Albert, Tisdale and Meadow Lake.
June 13, BMF hosted Kinderlsey.
The season ended with an intra squad game Monday.
BMF issued awards two six players this season. Grade 6s Rett Taggart and Zach Wolfe, Grade 7s Jacob Stynsky and Devin McCallister and Grade 8s Jesse McNabb and Taylon Elderkin received awards for their work this season.
With the BMF season coming to an end, the Grade 8 players were encouraged to join their high school football programs in the fall while the younger athletes will have to wait until May next season to get back on the field.
