Young golfers rack up tour points

In the final SGI Canada Saskatchewan Junior Order of Merit Tour event of the season, Unity's Justin Wood impressed in the 17 and 18 year old division. Wood golfed in the tour championship at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course and shot 73 and 74.

In the final SGI Canada Saskatchewan Junior Order of Merit Tour event of the season, Unity's Justin Wood impressed in the 17 and 18 year old division.

Wood golfed in the tour championship at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course and shot 73 and 74. Wood's day one 73 had him tied for second place in Saskatoon. His score of 147 accumulated 112-tour points. Those 112 points helped Wood earn fourth spot in the overall SGI Canada Saskatchewan Junior Order of Merit Tour standings. Wood had 1,725 point overall. The winner of his division was Daegan Wall, who recorded 2,968.75 points.

In the 12 and under male division, Kristian Houk of North Battleford finished with 160 points and tied for 10th.

Maidstone's Danielle Blackmer earned 900 points and was fourth in the 17 and 18 year old female division.

Mikayla Phipps of Lashburn was seventh in tour standings in the 15 and 16 year old female division with 337.5 points. Mikayla golfed in the tour championship last week and shot a 98 and 107 recording 48 tour points.

Many young golfers in Saskatchewan went from the Cook Municipal Golf Course in Saskatoon to Elk Ridge Resort and played in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour event Aug. 25 and 26.

There Wood tied for fifth place in his division with a 79 and 77 score.

Kristian was second at the MJT event in the 13 and under division. Kristian shot a 39 on nine holes the first day and a 79 on 18 the next. Kristian also won the Long Drive, Skills and Comeback Award for his division.
