The Battlefords Midget Stars played three games in four nights and earned a win against perhaps the most unlikely of the three opponents.

The Stars faced the Beardy's Blackhawks Thursday in a neutral site game and Blake Young led the last place Stars to a win over the first place Blackhawks.

Young scored four times and added two assists in the Stars 8-7 win. He scored the game's first goal early in the first and followed that with a shorthanded marker minutes later. Tyson Empey, Garrett Zelinski and goaltender Nigel Detbrenner-Rempel had assists, which put the Stars up 2-0. Shortly after that, Regan Yew scored his fifth of the season from Jordaan Braun to put the Stars up 3-0.

Beardy's responded on a penalty shot later in the first, but defenceman Eric Pfeifer scored on a power play from Carter Danczak to reclaim the three-goal lead with his first of the season before the first period ended.

The Stars had four goals on six first period shots, but were outscored in the second when Beardy's pulled within two goals heading into the third period with a score of 6-4.

Austin Duzan and Young scored for the Stars in the second while Young, Reece Fenrich, Kihisis Derocher and Danczak earned assists in the second. Duzan's goal was his fourth of the season while Young netted his seventh of the season.

In the third, Beardy's tied the game with two goals, but Young responded for the Stars again from Fenrich.

Danczak put the Stars up two goals with 2:11 remaining with his team leading 18th goal of the season from Young.

That would hold up to be the game winning goal, as Beardy's scored with just over a minute left to play to draw within a goal.

Along with his assist, Detbrenner-Rempel earned his fifth win of the season while making 27 saves.

The next two games were ones the Stars would like to quickly forget, as they lost 6-1 Saturday to the Saskatoon Blazers and 10-0 Sunday to the Prince Albert Mintos.

Saturday at home, Yew scored the lone goal for the Stars in the loss while Brody Tatchell earned the assist.

Blair Mahon was solid in the Stars net despite the loss, making 30 saves. The Stars managed just 18 shots against the Blazers, who sit two spots ahead of the Stars in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings.

Sunday, the Stars trailed 4-0 after the first, 7-0 after two periods and fell 10-0 in Prince Albert to the fifth place Mintos.

Mahon made 33 saves in the loss.

The Stars used a different affiliated player in each of the three games and that could be the trend for the remainder of the season when those players are available, as the Stars have 11 games remaining and are 14 points out of a playoff spot.

The next action for the Stars is Wednesday at home to Prince Albert then Sunday in Saskatoon against the Contacts.
