Saskatchewan Hockey Association, along with Hockey Manitoba announced the coaches and camp invitees for the Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Both provincial hockey organizations had 34 players invited to camp, which will be held Aug. 9 to 13 in Wilcox. The players have been invited based on previous performances with each province's Under 16 program of excellence along with feedback from the scouting network during the previous season.
Kendall Fransoo of North Battleford, who played with the Notre Dame Hounds this season as a 15-year-old defenceman, was one of the Saskatchewan players invited to camp. Kendall had one goal and seven assists this season and 112 penalty minutes with the Hounds, who finished 11-25-7-1.
Nigel Detbrenner-Rempel was also invited to camp in August. Detbrenner-Rempel, moved from Melfort to the Battlefords and played in 22 games in his rookie season with the Battlefords Midget Stars. Detbrenner-Rempel was 6-8-1 throughout the season with a 4.78 goals against average.
Carter Amson, a Saskatchewan forward invited to camp also has ties to the Battlefords. Amson is from Radisson and played with the Saskatoon Blazers this season. In 2010-11 Amson played four games with the Stars.
These players will undergo a five-day camp consisting of practices, games, fitness testing and interviews later followed by evaluations with their 2012-13 club teams with final selections being announced in early November. The 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will be hosted in Victoriaville/Drummondville, Que. from Dec. 29 to Jan. 4, 2013.
