Not only is the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum known for its many historical baseball artifacts, but in the near future there will be another must see attraction in Battleford.

The Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame is looking to add the world's biggest bat to the collection of memorabilia.

The first recorded baseball game in the Northwest Territories was played in Battleford May 31, 1879 on the grounds of Fort Battleford National Historic Site. Displaying the largest bat will be a way to commemorate the tradition and long running history of baseball in Battlefords, the province and the country.

The exact spot in Battleford is still to be confirmed along with the weight, but Jane Shury expects the bat to reach 55 feet in length.

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is kicking off a 50/50 draw in order to fundraise for the bat. A maximum of 4,000 tickets will be sold for $25 each with the draw being made at noon Dec. 12, 2012.

Tickets can be purchased from the hall of fame or from directors of the hall of fame.

Shury is hopeful the bat can be ready for Aug. 18, when the 2012 induction ceremony is held, but that all depends on how ticket sales go and finalizing the details of the bat.
