Troy Harms has been involved in curling from a young age and continues to enjoy the sport in the Battlefords, but the next major event to make curling memories for the John Paul II student won't be his own curling.

Troy has been selected as on of 14 SaskEnergy Junior Stars for the Capital One Canada Cup in Moose Jaw. The Canada Cup, which features the top ranked teams from across the country, will be played Nov. 28 to Dec. 2.

SaskEnergy and Capital One have partnered to give lucky young curlers an opportunity to experience championship curling first hand.

The competition was open to Saskatchewan curlers between 11 and 19 with each participant submitting an essay describing: How I give back to my community.

Troy currently curls in two evening leagues with the Twin Rivers Curling Club and works part-time at the Northland Power Curling Centre along with attending class at John Paul II Collegiate.

The junior stars will receive event tickets for themselves and two parents or guardians, a gift package, as junior stars jacket, a photo with their team and they will be introduced at the opening ceremonies with one of the 14 teams.

"Since I was five years old, curling has been a huge part of my life," explained Troy. "To be accepted as one of the Junior Stars is one of the most memorable events in my entire curling experience."

Other young curlers selected include: Kassidy Silbernagel, Brett Day, Harper Rae, Edam Stevenson, Amelia McMullin, Sarah Hoag, Rebecca Garner, Carson Ackerman, Lane Greenwood, Logan Wild, Travis Tokarz, Dustin Mikush and Matthew McKenzie.

"It's always great to see how excited these kids are to be chosen as Junior Stars," said Shannon Doka, community involvement leader for SaskEnergy. "It's a wonderful experience for them and we're proud to be a part of making it possible."
