Unity barrel racer Twila Zunti recently competed in the Canadian Cowboy’s Association Finals, held in conjunction with Agribition in Regina Nov. 24 to 28.

EverythingCowboy.com reported after day two, “Barrel racer Twyla Zunti put up the fastest time of the week, so far, getting under the 14-second mark to 13.99. She’s now in a tie for second overall with last night’s round winner.”

Zunti says, “I was seventh in round one with a 14.43, but won round two with a 13.99 time. Unfortunately I tipped in rounds three and four, but picked it up again for round five, earning a fourth, which settled me at fourth place overall of this competition. “

Zunti’s placings at this competition earned her just over $3,000 for the week.

Zunti says she enjoyed her first time competing in the Canadian Cowboy’s Association Finals.

“It was amazing! I have waited a long time to run down that alley at finals. It was great to race in front of sell-out crowds on Friday and Saturday nights of the event.”

The competition had it’s challenges

“You need to be consistent when you’re competing over five rounds, which unfortunately I wasn’t in rounds three and four. This bumped me out of aggregate. Whereas a weekend rodeo, you only get one run at the money.”

Zunti says her horses will get a bit of a break, but will be back in training in January, preparing for next year’s rodeo circuit. The CCA finals will move to Swift Current next year for the first time.”

Zunti has been racing for the past seven years and  was the season leader in her event leading up to the Manitoba Rodeo Finals, Oct. 23 in Brandon, Man.

From qualification in Brandon, Man. in late October to the actual CCA finals event, Zunti gave her horse, Chex, as much rest as she could, as it has been a long season for the big bay.

“Chex is the kind of horse that you like to keep calm and cool going up the alley and then it’s fun to turn him loose.”
