GATINEAU, QUE. — The Canadian Museum of History has announced it has acquired the world's oldest known ice hockey stick. Known as the Moffatt stick, it was hand hewn in the 1830s in Cape Breton, N.S., from a single piece of sugar maple.

The Canadian Junior Hockey League trade deadline was Saturday evening, and the Battlefords North Stars didn't stand pat. At about 5 p.m.

The Battlefords North Stars (18-12-6-0) picked up a win, and a loss in their first two games of 2015 with a 2-1 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves (14-20-2-2) Thursday, and a 3-0 loss in Melfort to the league leading Mustangs (25-9-3-4) Friday.

The Battlefords AAA Stars (18-9-0-1) picked up an easy win, and a hard fought loss against the Swift Current Legionnaires (7-21-0-2) over the weekend.

The Meota Combines (9-2-0-0) won their ninth straight game, and the Battleford Beaver Blues (7-5-0-0) picked up a win and a loss over the weekend.

SJHL president Bill Chow announced January 1 the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League will host a bantam draft each summer. The draft will be commencing with the league’s annual general meeting in the first week of June.
