A sickening toxic stew

Re: Page 4 Regional Optimist July 20, 2017

Dear Editor

Let's make this short and sweet. Yes, there is blame to lay on the other side. Lots of it. However, contrary to what Brian Giesbrecht and the Regional Optimist would like to have us believe, our ongoing responsibility and culpability has not just up and ended and/or disappeared, like magic. Our residential schools, our 60s scoop were as immoral, sadistic, damaging and wrong as anything out of South Africa. And whether we like it or not, we still own them, “lock, stock and barrel.” Their effect still profound and most terrifying, maybe everlasting. The still lingering and often blatant racism adds to the absolutely sickening toxic stew.

So what's the answer? Don't look at me... I don't have a damn clue, but neither does Giesbrecht, the Frontier Centre or anybody at the News-Optimist. All I know is I wake up every morning and thank the Big Guy I wasn't born on the Saulteaux, Little Pine, Sweetgrass, Poundmaker, Red Pheasant, Thunderchild or any other damn Saskatchewan reserve or for that matter... Pinehouse Lake or Wollaston Post.

The News-Optimist used to be the best newspaper available to you and me. There was a very good reason it was the best newspaper available to us. It was balanced, objective and moderate. It isn't any longer.
