This winter has been long and chilly, but now that March is here we can anticipate spring is just around the corner! In order to help hasten spring, we have planned some events to help make that happen as quickly as possible.

March and April are full of gardening workshops and events that are open to anyone and everyone who likes to garden. The Prairie Master Gardener Program is part of our community outreach at the Saskatoon School of Horticulture. Master gardeners are people from all walks of life who have one great commonality — a love of gardening. Since 1989, master gardeners have been helping to change the gardening world across North America. They are trained volunteers who share their knowledge and skills with their local community. The Prairie Master Gardeners are a group of gardeners based in Saskatchewan who want to improve their communities "from the spade up.”

We attended Seedy Saturday in Regina in the hope of offering a host of gardening classes in Regina and area. I am happy to say that we were overwhelmed with the response we received and we are offering classes starting soon. Please check the schedule on the website. If you are interested in attending classes, drop us a line at [email protected] or call us at 306-931-4769. Let us know what type of classes you are interested in to help us schedule what you want to learn about. We are also willing to travel to other communities that are interested in having classes, so please let us know if we can help you out.

We have many workshops that are planned for Saskatoon. These are both compulsory and elective classes you need to take to become a Prairie Master Gardener and the cost is  only $25 for members and $35 for those who do not wish to join the program.

Seed the Future! is the next Grow with Us workshop. It follows the theme of beginning this year's garden. One of the best parts of the day is the potluck lunch and participants are asked to bring something along to share for lunch. The food is fabulous, the company is amazing and the day is always enjoyed. Join us March 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $50 for members and $60 for non-members and all participants will take home a selection of seeds that they have planted.

Happy March. We hope to see you soon!
