Constituents have easy access to MP

Dear Editor

Regarding John Cairns' “In Election 2015, all the action is elsewhere” he stated there was "nothing to write about" and then proceeded to write about 1,000 words about it.

I wish to point out a few things in his missive. Gerry Ritz’s constituency office for the Battlefords-Lloydminster riding has been located on 100th Street in North Battleford for many years, allowing any constituent the opportunity to bring any issues and concerns to him. Plus the toll free number and email are conveniently available .

The riding, recently adjusted, I believe, also includes Kindersley, Flaxcombe, Unity, Macklin, Marshall and Paradise Hill, so he may have needed to be there as well, just not reported in the media.

It is also a requirement that several cabinet ministers be present in Ottawa on a rotating basis to carry on the business of government during this caretaker period.

He will be off to Ottawa again soon and absent from the riding to attend the Canadian Agriculture Association meetings. If he did not go as the minister, some wags in the old media and new media would say he was afraid to show up. A case of damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I am sure that there will be ample opportunity during this long campaign for the voters to interact in person or by other means with Mr. Ritz.

Michael Kent,

North Battleford
