Dear Editor
The Saskatchewan Craft Council would like to say a big thank you to all the supporters throughout the years of the Saskatchewan Handcraft Festival. It is with sadness that the Board of the Saskatchewan Craft Council has cancelled the SHF. This was a difficult decision given the significance that it has played in the history and development of fine craft in the province. When the SHF began, it was the only event of its kind, and drew large crowds and many vendors. While the SHF continued to stand apart in the quality of work that was available, in today’s marketplace, there are many opportunities to purchase craft. In short, we have seen widespread growth and success throughout the province in sales of fine craft through markets in numerous communities, online sales, retail opportunities and artist-led direct sales.
The Saskatchewan Craft Council looks forward to working with the Battlefords’ fine craft artists and the community to find new ways to collaborate and showcase fine craft.
To the residents of Battleford and North Battleford, thank you for the many years of support you have provided to the Saskatchewan Handcraft Festival. Battleford is the birthplace of Dimensions, our biannual open, juried exhibition of Saskatchewan fine craft. You can visit the exhibition online at https://www.saskcraftcouncil.org/affinity-gallery-exhibitions/current-exhibition/.
We are truly grateful for your support.
Sincerely,
Carmen Milenkovic
