As you know from the column a couple of weeks ago, Saskatchewan School of Horticulture has embarked on a massive production. The Enchanted Forest will be 800 square feet of horticulture and gardening that will educate the public with a hefty side of enchantment.

What we have not shared with you is the many hundreds of plants we have been growing for decor and for sale at Gardenscape. One of the features of the Enchanted Forest is of course the planted piano that will be played by musicians throughout the show. So the challenge was how can we take an upright piano and make it look like it has been in the forest for long enough to have plants growing all over it. The solution was we planted flats of grass on coconut fibre so we could have vertical appeal. It looks amazing! Watch our website and facebook for updates on our growing experience.

We are also growing herbs, vegetables and even some ornamentals that will be available for purchase at Gardenscape as well. It has been a great experience for our student body to actually produce a variety of crops to help them to enhance their skills as budding horticulturists. Come see us at the show and take home a host of herbs to enjoy from now right through the summer.

Our Meadow events have also evolved. During our time at Seedy Saturday in Saskatoon we connected with a group of great people who are going to bring music, drumming, storytelling and more! Keep an eye on our website for the latest fun we have planned for all of you!

What would a trade show be without products from the garden? Come taste our infused oils and flavoured vinegars and if you prefer, that is also another product you can take home. We have a variety of recipes we have been taste testing in the classroom and we plan on sharing these flavourful additions with you throughout the show. Herbed butters, candied borage flowers and many more delectable options are open to you.

A new shipment of tillandsia have arrived so we are busy making these wonderful air plants into living art. It is the latest craze that our student body is embarking on so you too can enjoy these great plants in your home and garden. Tillandsia get all their water and nutrients from the air so are an easy plant for you to care for and enjoying them as a living art form is even better.

Last but not least, come see us for a couple of great tools to keep your garden under control. The Ko Gama and Nejiri Gama hoes will be available for you to purchase at the show. They are without doubt one of the best tools I have ever used in the garden.

Both the Prairie Master Gardeners and the students of SSH are also sharing coupons that you may be interested in. They have embarked on a contest to get the gardening public to enjoy the experience of the Enchanted Forest and are hoping to have the most response to win a special prize. These coupons entitle the bearer to deals on plants, gardening classes, tillandsia art and more. The key to winning is to get either get in touch with our students or the Prairie Master Gardeners or check out our website at saskhort.com, our facebook page at Saskatoon School of Horticulture or on twitter @horticulturepat.
