The past week started with sunny weather but toward the end we had to have a little blizzard. The wind was coming in from the northeast. I know from life’s experience that whenever we get a northeast wind, it turns colder than all get out. I don’t think there is any doubt “winter is here.” To those of us who bemoan our winter like myself, take heart. At least we didn’t get what Buffalo or Calgary has had. Not yet anyway. Of course the winter is not over yet.
Nov. 26 I have marked a possibility of rain for May 26. Should be just in time to get the crop off to a good start. Here’s to fingers and toes crossed.
On the home front I have put the farm into hibernation. Twenty-nine below and a brisk wind, this little fat boy does not want to be out there. The grain for cleaning is in my elevator. That cleaning is not happening until later. I have no urge to crawl around in a snow bank to start fixing anything. There will come a better day.
In world news the war on ISIS is continuing. We know they are flying every day but an information ban must be in effect because no news has surfaced since they killed some dump trucks, a transport truck and a bulldozer. They must be using the old World War Two motto that “loose lips, sink ships.” I don’t care, I don’t need to know, just come home safe.
In Ottawa the media is digging hard to find more out about these two mysterious anonymous female NDP MPs who were sexually harassed. They still do not have names, but more details have emerged from one person on this veil of secrecy. Apparently this anonymous NDP female was up in a male Liberal MPs hotel room drinking and partying with him and he became aggressive with her. They had sex and she supplied the condom. Good Lord, she is up in his room drinking with him and she has sex. She even comes along with a condom in her purse. The time to say “No” is before this all started. Nine months later after the deed is done, it’s too late to say “Well, I don’t think I liked it.” The Liberal MP has been suspended from Caucus and banned from running in the next election. This is totally unfair to the man. He has been tried, convicted and sentenced without due process of law. Where is his day in court? No matter what happens from now on his political career is over. Maybe that is how the NDP is going to take down the Liberals, one night at a time. Ooooh, Da Devil made me say that.
In Toronto, Jian Ghomeshi has dropped his $55 million lawsuit against the CBC for wrongful dismissal. He is now charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of overcome resistance choking. He has hired a lawyer and pleaded not guilty. This has people shaking their heads about the whole sordid affair. Even after the offences, these women continued to go out with him. Only after sometime later, when he moved on to have rough sex with other women did they mention it to the media. Then the police got wind of it and of course with the chance to take down some big name person they pounced on it and the rest is history. Ghomeshi’s actions have offended the people of Toronto who hold themselves up to be “Toronto the Good.” I don’t think there is any doubt he did these things, but if and when this thing ever gets to trial, I will predict a media zoo like only Toronto can provide. The media will be looking under every bed sheet and bed. They will have their noses in every nook and cranny and the prosecution will be led by the media. The media have already judged him guilty. They are on a witch hunt as they have interviewed every female who worked or had contact with Ghomeshi. If he has a good lawyer, after a long ordeal, I predict he could get off. Sorry girls, but that will be the way this cookie crumbles. These charges have to be proved in court. There is no smoking gun. All there is there is a bunch of “he says, she says.” None of the allegations are recent. I might be wrong, but we will see.
The only other news of interest is the drop in oil prices. It is down to $65 a barrel and probably not stopping there. Funny how the price at the pumps has lost only a few cents and the price of crude has lost a third of its value. When the crude goes up, the gas is up right away. How come the gas is not coming down more here? There is much wringing of hands by the governments as a great deal of their income comes from the oil industry. The oil patch has had an unprecedented run of 20 years or more of just pump more oil. Is this going to be the downturn?
Joke of the week who goes by the stage name of Rosaleeta Hi-Nighty. A hypnotist goes to entertain at an old folk’s home. He gets the old people sitting in their walkers and wheel chairs around him. He takes out a large gold pocket watch with a gold chain. Letting the watch swing back and forth slowly on the chain, he instructs everyone to watch the watch and they will get sleepy. As he drones on in his monotone voice he notices with satisfaction everyone has their head down and is under his spell. Just then he dropped the watch and when it hit the floor it smashed to pieces. “Crap,” said the hypnotist. It took hours to clean up the mess.
