Dear Editor

I am really looking forward over the next year or so to watching the CUPlex Games - you know the ones - the handwringing 'It can't be done' games.

Increasing the recreation capital fund by $75 dollars a year [the equivalent of a couple of cups of coffee a month or two Saturday papers] will result, in all likelihood, in some financial hardship for vast numbers people, and possibly even more dire consequences! No doubt the so called 'majority' of naysayers felt the same way about the trail around town when it was started some 25 years ago and yet this is the one thing which impresses most visitors to our city.

For the negatively inclined I suggest we raise the money by having the City cease cleaning the side streets and sidewalks in winter, something no other city does. The cost saving will be tremendous and the City may actually come out ahead of the game.

As for the politicians - I suggest listening to a few complainers displays neither the leadership nor the vision you were elected to display. What will we leave our children - crumbling or non-existent infrastructure and a culture of 'do nothing'?' Not exactly the best way to attract business opportunities and people.
