Fundata Canada Inc. announced the winners of the Fundata FundGrade A+ Awards for 2014 at an awards ceremony held in Toronto on January 21. Fifty-six fund companies representing a total of 225 funds received the prestigious A+ award.

The FundGrade A+ Rating is a totally objective, transparent, score-based calculation using a grade-point average that ranks funds to determine the annual “best-of-the-best” investment fund ratings. As such, the FundGrade A+ Rating provides investors, advisors, and fund managers with a single, reliable, easy-to-understand fund-performance rating based on up to 10 years of history.

Janny Vincent, President and CEO of Fundata Canada Inc., said, “Achieving a FundGrade A+ Rating denotes inclusion in an exclusive group, because less than 4 per cent of the investment fund products available in Canada have received a FundGrade A+ rating.”

Ms. Vincent pointed out that for a very large number of Canadians, the fund industry is an extremely important and intrinsic part of how they manage their investments. Recent research has shown that over 80 per cent of Canadians have greater confidence in mutual funds to meet their financial goals than other financial products. As of last year, the mutual fund industry hit a milestone of over $1 trillion in assets under management, while exchange traded funds grew to over $77 billion in assets under management.

“We feel that singling out Canada’s top investment funds with the FundGrade A+ Rating allows investors and advisors to easily identify the best of the best over the past year,” said Ms. Vincent. “Fundata Canada is pleased – and proud – that the FundGrade A+ Award has been accepted and embraced by our industry as a truly objective, independent mark of distinction for those funds and fund managers who receive the award,” she added.

The FundGrade A+ Rating builds on and enhances the popular Fundata FundGrade fund rating system. The FundGrade A+ Rating is awarded annually to funds that have achieved consistently high FundGrade scores through an entire calendar year.
